Statement from the Monongalia County Task Force

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., December 15, 2020 — A group of local/state government, education and private sector leaders gathered – remotely – with the assistance of the Morgantown Area Partnership (the Partnership) pledging to coordinate resources to maximize community assistance for Viatris employees and their families that will be impacted by the recent plant closure announcement. The task force will work with Viatris to assist the impacted workers as well as to further support the research & development and other jobs the company will maintain in the community.

The Partnership, the community’s economic development organization, is coordinating the efforts of the task force to minimize confusion and maximize communication for the group. Participants included representatives of the Monongalia County Commission, Monongalia County Schools, City of Morgantown, West Virginia University, WV State Legislature, Mon Health System and the Partnership Board. Also working with the task force is the United Steelworkers local, our Congressional Delegation and the WV Development Office. The effort is intended to be inclusive of community and state leadership so it is anticipated that representation will grow as the task force moves forward.

The task force recognizes the importance of working with Viatris – which will remain a significant employer in the community – to bring the maximum assistance in a timely manner to the impacted employees and their families. The task force intends to be purposeful, respectful and diligent in its efforts to assist the employees and the company.
